Papers of the Hopkins family and their Attmore and Hopper relations include letters, deeds, bonds, receipts, wills and estate papers, inventories, account books, copybooks, and memorabilia. Of note are letters of Edwin A. Hopkins, Milton Hopkins, Sr., Julia Hopkins, and others, 1870-1910, concerning money matters, school, health, parental advice, Glen Cove people and events, and other family news; daybooks of Edwin A. Hopkins, 1869-1886, concerning Cedar Swamp farm, with sketches in the margins; small diary kept on board the ship GENERAL EATON, 1809, mentioning Attmore passengers and yellow fever epidemic in Charleston, S.C.; copybooks of Mary Hopper, 1833-1860, with verses and her records from teaching; copybook of H. Attmore, 1747, of measurements and conversions; Civil War diary of Abby Hopper Gibbons concerning her life as an Army nurse in Northern Virginia, Washington, and New York, 1861-1862; and a letter from Sarah Attmore to her husband Thomas, 1776.

Abby Hopper Gibbons (1801-1893), daughter of Isaac T. Hopper (1771-1852), was an important figure in many of the reform movements of the mid- and late nineteenth centuries, especially abolition and her work with the Women's Prison Association and Isaac T.
